Applications will remain open indefinitely.

Applications received: 00/48

Casts at Cap:
- Fate/

Welcome to Awash's applications, and thank you for your interest! Before applying, please be sure to read the FAQ!

For new players, there is an application cap of however many applications will bring us to the game cap of 80; we will only be reviewing the applications received that fit into that number.

For current players, there is no cap. Please feel free to submit an application for your second character if you would like to; that application will not count towards the application cap.

  • Please note that a reserve is no longer required to app, as we will not be having a reserves round before application rounds any longer with the small number of slots that are open!

  • Please paste your app into the comments; do not link to your application. This is for the sake of fairness when judging applications.

  • Please do not delete and repost your application. That makes it difficult for the mods to keep count of how many applications have been submitted!

  • If you receive revisions, you will have 48 hours to submit your revisions before the application is automatically declined.

  • If your application is declined for any reason, you may contact the mods here or via PM for more information; however, there is no guarantee the decision will change.

  • Applications will be processed twice: once halfway through the app round, and once at the end of the app round.

Character Info

Character's Name: Zelda
Character's Canon: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Character's Age: 117... she would sooner call herself 17 however, since 100 years were spent in stasis as she sealed Calamity Ganon until Link awoke.
Canon Point: True Ending of the game (Calamity Ganon vanquished + Link regained all his memories)
Background/History: here for the overall story and here for Zelda's background in particular. LoZ has a lot of crazy lore and timelines to make all their games canon, but as nothing solidly connects Breath of the Wild to any previous title I won't be worrying about that so much. Suffice to say if more summary is needed let me know and I'll provide it!

Strengths:

Scholarly:

It is clear through Link's memories and her diary entries that Zelda is highly intellectual and guided by her curiosity of the world around her to make new discoveries. She had her own small study across from her room, a science lab of elixirs, research books and many illustrations. Despite environmental dangers, she explored the ruins of her castle to unearth its ancient secrets, gave great assistance to the Sheikah scientists in leading excavations and projects, and traveled across Hyrule on foot and horseback all in the name of discovery. Though this pursuit of wisdom was born out of a feeling of uselessness, it became a great and rewarding love of hers. Even after Ganon is defeated, her first inclination is to continue exploring Hyrule and log more discoveries in Hyrule.

Dutiful:

One important fact about Zelda is that she comes from an ancient bloodline that links back to the Goddess Hylia. Zelda never forgets her lineage, the weight she must bear on her shoulders, and acts in service to her destiny as the sealer of Calamity Ganon. Everything she does, all the many hours spent training, researching and pushing herself to be better is in service to her kingdom. No one looking at her would ever see the pain she bears, as she poises herself with dignity and pride for who she is. And when the Champions fall, her father is slain, and her appointed knight is sent away to heal, Zelda steps forward to face Ganon alone to save Hyrule. For a hundred years she locked herself within him to stop his rebirth, so that the world can continue to survive in wait until the day the hero returns. When that time came, she faced him with strength in her eyes as she dealt the final blow to defeat him. Zelda's resolve is tied to her sense of duty, to her sense of goodness, and even in despair she does not allow herself to give up hope.

Faith:

And to tie into the very last line about hope, Zelda is someone who holds belief in a high regard. Before her mother died she told Zelda that all will be well, and that she is capable of anything. For a long time Zelda did not believe, as she continued to fail to unlock her power and her many prayers and pleas to the Goddesses went unanswered. Yet in losing all that she loved, her home destroyed, her nation in peril, faith is what carried Zelda through a century of keeping Ganon at bay all alone. The world had moved on without her, most only regarding her as legend now, but she always believed that Link would awaken and join her to seal Ganon as foretold in the prophecies. Through her many failures and struggles, Zelda learned that she must always keep faith even when it is the hardest thing to do, and that is what true strength is.

Weaknesses:

Self-Conscious:

Zelda is a woman who holds herself in very high regard. However, perhaps because of that, she takes failure poorly and is highly self-conscious. Much of this relates to the power that she spent years trying to awaken, and failed to do until the last moment it was needed. Despite this power being her birthright, spending countless hours in dedicated prayer and spiritual training, she could not awaken it. Many whispered that she wouldn't live up to the legacy of the ancestors she shared her name with, and Zelda began believing it too. She developed a deep self-loathing that colored her private thoughts, and had to quell her impulse to lash out at others with it. Much of the reason she began pursuing various research and sciences was because it was something she was good at, giving her a sense of purpose and breaking up the barrage of failures she felt.

Distant:

Growing up as a princess of an entire nation is hard on its own, but with the pressure of having to save the world on top of that, Zelda slowly withdrew herself from interacting with others outside the kingdom and the Champions. She stands with a quiet dignity and poise, and is remarked as not smiling as much as she did when she was younger, all because of the weight put on he shoulders. It is unlikely outside Link and the Champions that she ever made friends or lived anything resembling a normal life, as the demands of her were too great to turn away from. Her connections to others are in service of the role she plays, and she is slow to open up to others and let them see her past that. Vulnerability comes with unease, and she chooses to bear her pains in silence out of pride.

Identity:

When Zelda's mother died, she became weighted with the duty of saving her kingdom and the world from Ganon. From that moment she couldn't be anything but a savior without the eyes of the world judging her. Straying from the path made for her would be met with arguments with her father, and reminders of her failure to live up to the prophecies spoken for her. During a memory of Link's she asks him a question that is clearly more asked of herself: what if she was ever given the choice of who she could be? Would she choose to be the great princess who was fabled to seal the darkness, or someone else? Zelda clearly has great ambitions, a love for exploration, scientific curiosity, but none of these things defined her as much as her identity of Hyrule's savior. And while she has pride, she couldn't help but wonder what she could be otherwise. With the end of the game, her duty complete and her kingdom saved, Zelda must work to rebuild her sense of self at the same time she looks to the future with a hardened past behind her.

Powers/Abilities:

-Sealing Power: Passed down from woman to woman in her family since the first Zelda, the sealing power's purpose is to extinguish dark and malevolent forces that originally sealed Calamity Ganon 10,000 years prior to the start of the game. It is not so much an offensive spell as a defensive one however, as Zelda can only use it to purify dark forces as opposed to hurt the subject in question - otherwise Calamity Ganon would have just been destroyed originally as opposed to just being sealed away.

By the end of the game she notes that some of her power may have diminished in the extensive period used against Ganon, so coming into Awash it won't be at full power the same way it was at the end of Breath of the Wild. Zelda is also not naturally talented with her gift, as it took her many years to unlock it.

Other Noteworthy Traits:

-Diplomacy: Having to go on diplomatic missions to other lands as part of her duties as the princess means she is quite well spoken and verbose, taking all these matters with an air of seriousness and poise

-Knowledge in botany, entomology and herpetology: Through her research into elixirs, Zelda became something of an amateur botanist, entomologist and herpetologist as part of her studies. She is by no means a trained expert in this field, and all her understanding is constrained to knowledge of species from her own world, but it was a great love of hers to study. That said she understands enough that she could brew medicine from herbs, understand helpful properties in all three fields, and can cook up a mean lizard.

-Technologically savvy: Now Hyrule is very much a medieval kingdom land and even basic things like electrical lighting doesn't really exist. However Zelda's comfortable use of the Sheikah Slate, which is really just a modern touchscreen tablet, means she wouldn't face too many hurdles in using technology once she becomes accustomed to it. It's weird because Hyrule 10,000 years ago was implied to be a quite advanced civilization given the technology of the Sheikah, but over time they just regressed as opposed to going ahead.

-Horseback riding: Includes knowledge in how to tame and care for a horse, just like all good princesses should know.

-Sewing: In the DLC she is mentioned as being the one who crafted all the Champion's blue garbs that denoted their status as Hyrule's chosen warriors.

-Praying and suffering: When you gotta spent all day in a pool of water in only a white dress, you got some dedication, ok? Just saying.

Weapons & Other Special Inventory:

Outside of Zelda's clothing, she has on her body the Sheikah Slate, which Link returned to her following the end of the game (we see it in her hands at the ending cutscene and she holds onto it.)

Perhaps the most advanced piece of technology in all of Hyrule, the Sheikah Slate hails from the ancient Sheikah tribe that has long since abandoned their technological advancements to live more traditional lives. The Slate is among the last of its kind and is a rare artifact that was gifted to Zelda to assist in her research into the Guardians and Divine Beasts that are made of the same ancient technology. What the Slate is made of, or how it functions, is unclear but it is unbreakable and has a seemingly endless battery life because damn thing works after a 100 years?? Your iphone dies in like five hours meanwhile.

The importance of the Slate is that it has a wide range of functionality that can be used even outside of Hyrule. Some of these are pretty simple tablet functions, but others are unique abilities that are stored into the slate like a smartphone app. Now some of these I'm going to realistically tone down or outright disable, but I'm flexible.

-Scope: The back of the slate can open up into a scope that can be used by pressing your eye up to the tablet and looking through the magnification lens. It provides a very strong magnification toward the landscape ahead, and acts more as a spotting scope than anything. Best used from a high vantage point.

-Camera: High definition, and comes with selfie mode! Downside: no portrait mode because the Sheikah built in selfie ability but not a portrait mode?? Ok.

-Magnesis: Creates a magnetic beam that can latch onto metallic objects and move them around with the slate. Items can be lifted, pushed, pulled away and flung given the right momentum. The object cannot be attached to something else in such a way that would prevent it being moved all together, and incredibly heavy objects won't be movable. While in game it can be operated for a seemingly endless amount of time unless something disrupts the beam, let's say that the maximum time it can be used in any one period is about two minutes before it needs to recharged.

-Remote Bomb: Comes in round shape or a cube shape for whatever situation is most suitable. When detonated it creates a small but powerful blast that can destroy large boulders and hurt creatures. In most cases it cannot do a lot of serious damage alone, not unless it's used to trigger something that makes a more powerful boom. Only one bomb can be generated at any single time, and after detonation there is a short cooldown period before a new one can be made. There is no cooldown if the bomb is canceled out without detonating it. While the cooldown period is only seconds, let's say in game that the cooldown will be two minutes? Just so that Zelda can't toss them at rapid.

-Stasis: Can magically lock certain items or creatures in place, freezing them for a short time period. I'm not going to get into further detail because this function will be locked since it's definitely a little Much.

-Cryonsis: Creates large ice pillars up to 10 feet high by freezing over an existing pool of water, be it a pond, lake, or river. Only three pillars can exist at any one time, with any older pillars breaking as newer ones past the limit are formed. The pool of water must be enough to support the width of the pillar and the ice disappears as soon as it is broken.

-Compendium/Sensor: Using the camera function, the compendium can store photographs of important objects into a sort of index that can be labeled and referred to. The biggest use of the compendium is that it can connect to the Sheikah Sensor, which can indicate how close a single logged object/creature in question through a series of beeps. This isn't so much a GPS that tells you an exact route, it's more a detection system that provides an approximate sense of how close the slate is to the given subject. The actual finding of the item has to be done by looking around as opposed to relying on a waypoint. This one is dependent on how ok the mods are with the proposed system.

-Map: Generates a full map of Hyrule by connecting to corresponding towers. This function is locked because it won't really be effective in Awash's setting due to its dependency on the Sheikah's network.

Apart from the Slate, the extra item with be the Bow of Light. The bow was gifted by Zelda to Link in the very final stand down against Calamity Ganon, but it is to Zelda what the Master Sword is to Link - her traditional weapon of choice in the franchise for the past decade. The bow can either be used as just a normal bow that shoots traditional arrows (which Zelda would have to make or find on her own) or can shoot light arrows that she can manifest from her sealing power. The hilarity of this item is that Zelda doesn't likely know squat about archery so she'll have to learn that over time before she can actually make proper use of the bow.

Color: Blue - #98C7D8

It is the color of the royal family of Hyrule, and so as the princess it follows her.

Sample: TDM Toplevel and another tdm thread

[ OPTIONAL ] World Aspect: In Breath of the Wild the player is able to find horses of various colors and patterns roaming in random plains in the overworld, and tame them to be their personal steed. I think it'd be fun to incorporate this somehow into the game, for those characters who would have the interest and patience in taking care of a horse. A lot of mechanics info is here but it's pretty straight-forward: find horse, ride horse, pat horse, friend horse.

Here is my journal! Also, if it's not too late, could I actually change the hex code to #03b2f7 if it isn't taken?
