When they return, all memories and changes (such as scars, new powers, etc) will be present, though they will remember nothing from the forest. Also, they'll be missing their shoes. Unfortunate. Kaoru will disappear into the Woods for three days, at which point she will return with her new memories and without her shoes. Guess she'll have to use some of the Town's unfortunate shoes, until she can get new ones.

And it's fine to decide whenever you'd like to have her disappear -- it can be flexible!
